Whether it is a country you have always wanted to visit or you throw a dart at the world globe, there are things to consider about the city you choose as your home base, or as we call it, “The Hub”. This will be your home away from home for the duration of your Cruise By Land.
First, consider the international airports in the country. You might be surprised to learn that it is not only large cities that have international airports — many medium-sized cities do as well. For example, Stuttgart is only the sixth largest city in Germany, but it has a nice international airport and frequent connecting flights through Paris and London.
Once you have picked the country and city you want to visit, consider the public transportation in that city. We always look for a good public transportation system. This includes a good subway or metro system, an easy-to-use bus and taxi system, and most importantly, an easily accessible train station. This will be your portal to excursions and adventures outside the hub city.
Once you have ticked these requirements off your list, it is time to consider your lodging. More about that later, but for now…
